自宅でTOEFLが受験できる！？TOEFL iBT Special Home Editionの実施

新型コロナウイルスの影響によりテストセンターの閉鎖が実施されるなど大きな影響が出ているTOEFLですが、このような状況のなか、自宅でTOEFLを受験することができるTOEFL iBT Special Home Editionの提供が始まっています。

TOEFL iBT Special Home Editionは誰が受験できるのか

TOEFL iBT Special Home Editionを受験できるのは「通常TOEFL iBTが提供されている地域のうち、中国本土とイランを除く地域」となっています。従って、日本国内からは受験が可能です。

TOEFL iBT Special Home Editionを受験するのに必要な環境は

TOEFL iBT Special Home Editionは自宅からの受験が可能ですが、CASECのように自由に受験が可能なものではなく、ProctorUというシステムを利用しウェブカメラを通じて試験官が受験の様子を監督しながら行われる厳しいテストです。当然試験中書籍等を参照することはできませんし、試験中使用するメモ帳等にも制限がかけられており、実際のTOEFL iBTの試験会場と同じような環境を自宅に整備する必要があり、環境整備だけでも楽ではありません。以下、必要な環境について抜粋しました。

Equipment

Computer

Must be a desktop or laptop computer, not a tablet or mobile device.

Must use Windows^® operating system, versions 10, 8, or 7. Cannot use an iOS^® operating system.

Can use a Mac^® computer, with Windows installed.

Must use Chrome or Firefox browser.

Download and install the ETS Test Browser on the computer you will use for the test. To fully install the browser, you must run the .exe file after downloading it.

Run the ProctorU^® System Check from the computer you will use for the test.

Speaker

Must use an internal or external speaker to hear the proctor

Headsets or earphones are not allowed

Microphone

Must use an internal or external microphone that is not part of a headset to communicate with the proctor

Camera

Can be a built-in camera in the computer or a separate webcam

Camera must be able to be moved to show the proctor a 360-degree view of the room, including your tabletop surface, before the test

Environment and Testing Space

Privacy

You must be alone in a room with no one else entering during the test.

Testing in a public space such as a park, internet cafe or restaurant is not allowed.

Tabletop and seating

Your computer and keyboard must be on a desk or other tabletop surface.

The tabletop and surrounding area must be clear of all items not approved for use during the test.

You must sit in a standard chair; you may not sit or lie on a bed, couch or overstuffed chair.

Food and drink are not allowed during the test.

Clothing and appearance

Your ears must remain visible throughout the test, not covered by hair, a hat or other items.

You must be dressed appropriately for your test. You will be monitored via camera by the proctor, and your photo will be shared with institutions that receive your scores.

Avoid wearing such items as jewelry, tie clips, cuff links, ornate clips, combs, barrettes, headbands and other hair accessories.

Note-taking Materials

You may not take notes on regular paper, for security purposes.

You may take notes using 1 of the following:

Whiteboard with erasable marker

Paper with transparent sheet protector and erasable marker

You will be asked to erase all notes in view of the proctor at the end of the test.

TOEFL iBT Special Home Editionの申し込み方法は

まずは、上記のPC端末や自宅の受験スペースの環境等、受験環境を満たしているかの確認が必要です。特にウェブカメラの環境や、消すことのできるホワイトボード/プラスチック型のメモ帳等は試験のために別途用意する必要がある方も少なくないと思いますので、全ての環境を満たすよう準備が必要です。

環境の確認が終わったら、テストの申し込みをします。テストは自宅からの受験ですが、CASECのように自分の好きなタイミングで受験できるわけではありません。指定されたスロットの中から日時を選択し、試験の申し込みをします。試験の申し込みが完了したら、試験官との接続をするためのシステム、ProctorUの登録手続きを実施します。

試験日の指定された時間になったら試験を受験します。試験後、6～10日で試験結果が通知されます。
